Voiceflow's Collaborative Platform to Build AI Agents

The interest in conversational AI agents*, as well as their growth, has risen exponentially in only a matter of years, even months, and an increasing amount of companies across various industries are raring to create and launch their own.

While developing conversational AI agents undoubtedly comes with plenty of merits, it is also accompanied by numerous challenges. Voiceflow, a Toronto-based company founded by CEO Braden Ream, aims to be the solution to this sweeping issue with its scalable and collaborative AI agent-building platform.

The intensifying demand for AI agents has pushed a lot more companies to create conversational AI developing platforms that offer different features and specialties, depending on each company’s needs and requirements in building their AI agents.

Some of the biggest developing platforms in the field include Google’s Dialogflow, IBM’s Watson, and AWS’s Lex. More platforms trying to make the AI agent-building process easier have emerged, with some specializing in affordability, automation, and ease of use.

With each platform focusing on different specialties, however, it is very much possible that developers will still have to either test them out one by one to see which fits their needs perfectly or switch from one platform to another, making the building process remain time-consuming and resource-draining.

What Voiceflow offers is a platform with a little bit of everything, from low-code use and tech-agnostic capabilities to collaborative developments of various scales and complexities, as well as speed.

Quick Teamwork at Scale

Voiceflow’s platform, co-launched by Ream, Tyler Han, Michael Hood, and Andrew Lawrence, focuses its capabilities on collaboration and scalability. The platform allows up to 100 team members to work together on designing, building, testing, and launching their AI agents in real time.

Voiceflow provides auto-syncing to ensure that every team’s designs are always up-to-date and all available in one shared workspace. With team members undoubtedly having different roles, Voiceflow is equipped with a user role and permission feature so everyone has the right access.

By being a low-code platform, team members who may not have the high-level skill sets usually needed to work on traditional platforms will feel welcomed when utilizing Voiceflow. The platform also supplies advanced features that are specifically needed to design AI agents more easily, including a prototyping feature that lets team members create shareable prototypes in one click.

In an attempt to make the AI agent-building process faster and less costly for users, Voiceflow allows teams to integrate their workflow with any existing natural language understanding (NLU)* platforms or technology stack they plan to use or have previously used.

This way, teams can work on their design with versatility without having to think about vendor replacements or technology changes. Teams can also mix and match different LLM models using Voiceflow, eliminating the need to switch from one program to another.

*NLU: Natural Language Understanding, the ability of a computer to understand sentiments expressed in natural language used by humans.

With a comprehensive platform built for scale and speed, Voiceflow hopes to help companies save development time and deploy their AI agents swiftly without any need for messy and fragmented teamwork.

Since its launch, Voiceflow has had 130,000 users, including numerous global enterprises like Amazon, State Farm, and The Home Depot, with most using the platform for customer support automation.

The company raised $15M in a funding round led by OpenView Venture Capital and plans to use the funds to expand its platform’s features and the potential use cases it can bring, including but not limited to automated drive-thrus, in-app assistants, and so on.
