Maximizing Profitability and Growth for Barbershop Owners

In running a business, it is crucial to not only maintain the quality of your product or service but also to manage your operations, find and keep loyal customers, as well as find ways to keep increasing revenue.

Various resources are becoming increasingly available for business owners to achieve these goals, whether with point of sale (POS) systems, data sales analytics apps, or customer relationship management (CRM) platforms. With most resources only providing specific features and systems, however, managing a business can become inefficient and even more costly than it could be.

Squire, a Y Combinator-backed startup founded by Songe LaRon and Dave Salvant, creates a management system that handles everything small businesses in the barbershop industry would need.

Barbers and More

Despite having no background in the barbershop business whatsoever, with Songe LaRon being an attorney and Dave Salvant being a master's graduate in business administration, the duo purchased and ran a barbershop in New York City in 2016, prior to building Squire.

The purchase gave the duo quite a great understanding of how barbershops really operate, as they ran the front desk, ordered supplies, and conversed with customers. The learning experience also made them quickly aware of the ups and downs faced when managing a barbershop business, however.

The two saw that most shops have to use two or different kinds of software to maintain point-of-sale payment, marketing, and CRM. No all-in-platform that fits the way barbershops need to be run exists, and this poses a big issue; barbershop management becomes ineffective and expensive.

As witnesses to the inefficiency, LaRon and Salvant decided to build Squire, a platform that offers features helpful not only for customers but for barbershop owners and employees as well.

Squire’s Services

While more general, all-in-one platforms for business management exist plenty now, LaRon and Salvant felt the different needs barbershop businesses, especially smaller ones, have compared to businesses from other industries.

It is common for barbershops to lose money on products, whether due to staff stealing them, due to cases where people cancel appointments and not pay for them, or miscalculations on which product or barber has higher demand.

Using Squire’s backend platform, which provides CRM, booking management, sales analytics, and POS systems, barbershop owners can analyze their data or sales, for instance, by statistically identifying which barbers have higher performance or which shampoos sell the most. Squire is also equipped with a feature called Squire Capital, filled with money management tools personalized for barbershop operations.

With just one platform, owners can manage their business more methodically and thus more efficiently. The platform also has more customer-centric features, such as individual scheduling links for specific barbers, flexible online and in-person payment tools, membership and loyalty programs, as well as virtual waiting rooms, without leaving a business’ website or Instagram account.

With the hopes of creating a better working experience for employees as well, owners can utilize Squire’s commission calculations automation features, which include split service fees and tips for each barber and a commission modifier per barber based on their performance. Squire’s Rent Collect feature ensures consistent payment time with automatic weekly payments. With these automated features, peace of mind exists for owners and employees alike.

So owners can run and see to their day-to-day operations more smoothly, Squire allows multiple appointments to be made in just one order, enabling barbershops to view client info and manage bachelor parties or families more easily. To avoid any funds lost or left untracked, Squire is equipped with features that allow owners to track their funds over time, along with auto-charge programs for no-shows.

By fully integrating into Squire’s system, barbershop businesses will be able to find and earn customers more easily, manage their operations more strategically, and increase revenue in the most efficient way possible.
