Scaling Business Operations and Changing the World with Quantum Computing

Governments, organizations, and companies around the world are continuously searching for ways to solve problems we face on Earth, whether it be climate change, disease, poverty, or food shortages.

In this digital era, multiple parties believe transformative advancements in technology and the innovative forms of products and services that can be built from it to be the solution to tackling the numerous issues we see every day.

This includes Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), a company founded by Dr. Illana Wisby that believes in quantum computing technology as a world-saving movement with immense potential that every company and organization wanting to change the world should be able to unlock.

Applications of Quantum Computing

Similar though not completely identical to classic computing, quantum computing operates on the basic principles of manipulating and processing information represented by bits to perform calculations and solve problems.

While the building blocks of computers that we know as bit (binary digit) rely on “simple” 0s and 1s, like a light switch with 0 as off and 1 as on, quantum computers are built on qubit (quantum bit), which operate like a dimmer that can be on, off, or in multiple states in between.

This gives operators of quantum computing the ability to make discoveries and tackle problems with a little more detail compared with the usage of regular computers. Though still constrained by physically limiting sizes of qubits, quantum computing can revolutionize multiple fields such as materials science, drug discovery, financial modeling, AI, and so on.

The intricacy that comes with quantum computing is what makes it less accessible than we hope it could be, even less so than supercomputers, which are increasingly being used by big tech companies nowadays.

OQC dedicates its resources to not only building the most advanced quantum computers in the UK but also to commercializing quantum computing by delivering Quantum Computing-as-a-Service (QCaaS) to enterprises across the world.

Quantum Hardware and Services

After spending most of her time as a student in the National Physical Laboratory of Royal Holloway, University of London, Dr. Wisby’s passion for deep tech grew and paved her way to quantum computing.

Dr. Wisby, along with her co-workers at OQC, believe that a massive shift to quantum computing use can be life-changing for companies that delve into information processing along with their affected customers and clients.

OQC uses its proprietary, patented superconducting circuit technology named Coaxmon to scale its quantum computers without compromising their quality. OQC then utilizes its QCaaS platform to provide the abilities quantum computers can offer to companies that wish to be a part of a quantum-enabled future. This allows companies to not have to develop and build their own quantum computers.

Companies partnering with OQC can access its quantum tech via the cloud. Last March, OQC installed quantum hardware in Equinix IBX’s data centers, with plans to utilize Equinix’s virtual interconnection platform, Equinix Fabric, to make its QCaaS platform available for Equinix customers as well.

Whether to streamline a business or slow down climate change, OQC is sure that utilizing quantum computing will open up businesses and organizations to better, faster decision-making and substantial possibilities in research-based and practical use.

OQC announced a $47M series A funding round in mid-2023, which the company plans to utilize for further development of its propriety technology and an expansion of its team.
