Myth.AI’s Fashion Pattern Design Tools

Streamlining the Fashion Design Process with Sustainable Practices

Outside of certain communities with specific cultural practices, clothing is a norm that, over the past few decades, has increasingly gained more social significance, used to communicate our social status or express our personalities.

Often also deeply influenced by the society and culture that surround us, which has unfortunately been bombarded by habits of overconsumption, the fashion industry is filled with volumes of excessive but not necessarily good quality production that has turned the industry into an environmentally problematic one.

According to Earth.org, fast fashion has brought upon 92 million tonnes of landfill waste every year, with a prediction of up to 134 million tonnes a year by 2030 if this habit doesn’t end. The US alone contributed to 2.6 million tonnes in 2020.

Turkey-based fashion tech startup Myth.AI, founded by female entrepreneur Özgecan Üstgül, created a web-based AI pattern design tool in an attempt to lessen textile waste as well as bring time and cost efficiency into one’s design process.

Sustainable Fashion

The process of great textile designing requires several steps, one of them being the need for the ever-essential design prototypes and fabric swatches used to help designers test out fabric combinations and pairings before taking the next step to finalize their designs.

While fabric swatches, also known as textile samples, are called samples due to their small sizes and may seem like they won’t contribute all that much to textile waste, they exist in unimaginably abundant amounts in every corner of the world, often ending up as landfill.

Some players in the fashion industry have adopted ways of sourcing fabric swatches by recycling existing textile waste instead of having them thrown out or burned, creating a form of circularity in the industry. However, this mindful method is yet to be as ubiquitous as it could be.

Like most environmentally friendly actions, starting “small” as an individual plays a significant role, and this is the notion that pushed Üstgül into creating Myth.AI.

Less Hassle, Faster Crafts

With fashion production trends accounting for 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, Myth focuses its business model on not only supporting designers in creating better but faster and more cost-effective crafts but also in tackling fashion waste.

Myth.AI allows designers to create distinctive patterns through visual and/or text prompts, streamlining what could usually take weeks into mere minutes, even seconds. Myth’s tools enable the need for fabric supplier assistance, which is typically significant but leads to waste when creating or modifying designs, to be removed altogether.

Designers can utilize Myth to design abstract, geometric, and floral patterns, in addition to digital art and even game & meta verse-esque designs. Operating within various sectors such as fashion & textile, ceramics, packaging, and home decor, Myth.AI provides versatility in patterns and services.

With Myth.AI, designers will have unique, certified patterns in each use that will belong exclusively to them without much need for production hassle and design cost. Myth’s easy-to-use tool also enables those only starting to dabble in the industry without much skill to start designing.

Myth has assisted UK-based companies over the past year and plans to expand its services, advancing to the US and Asian markets by 2024 following its recent $1.3M funding round.
